Congregation Beth Shalom Purim Mishloah Manot Initiative

Sponsored by the Arnold H. and Belle G. Lazarus Annual Remembrance Fund

A wonderful mitzvah for the holiday of Purim is “Mishloah Manot,” or the sending of gifts of food to friends. As it says in the Megillah, “They were to observe them as days of feasting and gladness, and as time for sending gifts to one another, and to the poor.” Esther 9:22

This year, for the first time, Congregation Beth Shalom will be sending Mishloah Manot to the members of our congregation. You will have the opportunity to support this effort and send Purim wishes to friends and acquaintances in the synagogue.

If you have not received a personalized e-mail with a link for participation (i.e. sending mishloah manot to others), send an e-mail message to Executive Director Ken Turkewitz at ExecDir@BethShalomPgh.org to receive the e-mail message with the link you’ll need  for participation.

Delivery of Mishloah Manot bags will apply to Beth Shalom households located within Allegheny County. Members located outside the County will receive Purim cards accompanied by your personal greetings. Also, if you wish to opt out of receiving a basket or you will be out of town, please contact Tika at Beth Shalom at 412-421-2288, x114.

In addition, if anyone would like to be loaned a Purim Megillah booklet for the holiday, please indicate so on the appropriate check-off box on the on-line or paper form or contact Tika at Receptionist@BethShalomPgh.org. These booklets must be returned to the synagogue after the holiday.

ALL ORDERS MUST BE PLACED BY FEBRUARY 8!

This Mishloah Manot project is a double mitzvah. One, a lovely Purim tradition will be communally observed, and two, all proceeds will benefit Beth Shalom. And how many chances do we get to do a double mitzvah?

If you have any questions, you may contact Tika at (412) 421-2288 ext. 114.
